IEFL, Kane Linton, Faculty of Engineering gave a presentation on the the implementation of authentic speaking homework tasks in Foreign Language Education at the 20th Cambodian CamTESOL international conference, which was held from February 23rd to February 25th, 2024 in Phnom Penh, Thailand. The Cambodian TESOL International Conference, this year under the theme of "Preparing Successful Learners: Bringing Real Language into the ELT Classroom" gathers TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) practitioners from a variety of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary fields to capture insightful English Language Teaching (ELT) research, pedagogies, materials and innovations for current and future endeavours in local and global contexts. The Cambodian TESOL International Conference welcomes and invites TESOL community members worldwide in some of the following areas:
Kane Linton's study explored the significance of integrating authentic materials and real-world contexts into speaking homework assignments. This session focused on an approach to speaking homework implemented in a two-week language immersion seminar. The session covered the method applied, the context of the language immersion seminar and the outcomes. A scaffolded rundown was made available to attendees hoping to implement a version of the method in their contexts. This session was aimed at teachers of high school or university students who seek to implement interesting approaches in speaking homework tasks. The end goal is ultimately developing more confident and proficient English speakers.
