第15回空間情報理論に関する国際会議（COSIT2022）が9月5日～9日に神戸市で開催されました

第15回空間情報理論に関する国際会議（以下、COSIT2022）が2022年9月5日～9月9日に神戸市内「北野工房のまち」にて開催されました。本会議は、隔年開催で今回は 高橋和子・工学部教授がローカルオーガナイザをつとめました。
本会議は、規模は小さいながら単一セッションで「空間情報理論」をキーワードに情報科学、認知科学、地理学など多岐にわたる分野の研究者が一堂に会して議論を行い親交を深めることに大きな特徴があります。昨年は新型コロナウイルス感染症の影響で延期となり、このたびは十分な感染症対策を講じた上での原則対面での開催となりました。
事情により直前にオンライン参加になった参加者もありましたが、結果的には12か国（日本を含む）70名近くの参加者（うちオンライン3名）があり例年に劣らぬ規模と充実した内容で開催できました。3件の基調講演、31件の口頭発表、3件のポスター発表に加えてテーマを決めたセッションがいくつか設けられ複数の登壇者による討論がありました。内容としては、ナビゲーションや空間モデリングの話が多く認知面、実用面の双方から取り組む話題が提供され活発な議論が行われました。これを機に分野横断的な研究が促進されることが期待されます。

The 15th International Conference on Spatial Information Theory (COSIT2022) was held at Kitano Meister Garden in Kobe city on
Sep.5 - 9, 2022. This conference is a biannual event and Prof. Kazuko Takahashi from Dept. of Computer Science, School of Engineering was in charge of the local organizers.
The biggest feature of this small conference is that researchers from various research fields, including information science, cognitive science, geography and so on, meet together to discuss their common issues on spatial information theory and to have a close interaction.
The conference was postponed last year due to COVID-19 outbreak, but decided to be held as basically an in-person meeting in this year.
As a result, except for three on-line presenters, about 70 participants from over 12 countries (including Japan) joined at the venue, and the conference was held on almost the same scale and substantial content as the previous ones. In addition to three keynote speakers, 31 oral presentations and three poster presentations, three themed sessions were specially held in which several speakers discussed on each specific theme. Many of general presentations were related to navigation and modeling maps which were discussed both from cognitive and practical viewpoints. It is expected that this event will further promote interdisciplinary research.
