Professor Sadahiko Nakajima of the Faculty of Humanities gave a presentation entitled “Voluntary Wheel Running Induces Nausea in Laboratory Rats: Nausea Does Not Habituate for 20 Days” at the 58th International Society for Applied Ethology (ISAE) Congress, held in Utrecht, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, from August 4 to 8, 2025. This year’s congress registered approximately 450 scientists engaged in research on the behavior of livestock and laboratory animals, with nearly all attending in person. Many participants came from EU countries, including the host nation, the Netherlands, as well as from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. There was also a some number of participants from China, South Korea, Latin America, and Africa, and a notable presence from India, which will host next year’s congress. Following the opening event on August 4, the program from August 5 to 8 featured numerous keynote lectures, workshops, oral presentations, and poster sessions from 9 a.m. until late afternoon. Some sessions addressed novel topics, such as the welfare of insects, designed to inspire new insights. In addition, traditional themes saw further development, refinement, and expansion in both research content and methodology.
